The Problem

Cryogenics explores emotional, social and spiritual coldness: the feeling of becoming disconnected from relationships, community and everyday life, while still searching for warmth.

The challenge was to translate those themes into a visual identity that carried the same emotional weight as the music. It needed to communicate isolation while retaining a sense of humanity, and give the project a recognisable presence across artwork, photography, film and social content.

The Idea

Movement inside stillness.

We built the creative direction around the idea of life held in suspension. Figures emerge from darkness, colours bleed into one another, and portraits appear caught between presence and disappearance.

Deep blacks and cold blues became the foundation. Blue connected the title to ideas of preservation, memory and emotional distance, creating a consistent thread between the sound and imagery.

The photography took a portrait-led approach, using grain, motion blur, distortion and ghosted silhouettes to introduce movement into a frozen frame. Texture and imperfection gave the images a lived-in quality, keeping the person visible within the atmosphere.

Controlled bursts of colour interrupted the darkness, creating moments of urgency within an otherwise restrained visual language. Each image held the same tension as the music: intimacy alongside isolation, stillness with something moving beneath it.

The Outcome

The resulting creative direction gave Cryogenics a cohesive visual identity and a foundation for an evolving campaign.

Across the artwork and photography, colour, texture and movement made the project recognisable while leaving space for individual songs to develop their own visual expression. That approach also established a framework for films, performances and social storytelling beyond the initial release.

As artist and Creative Director, I connected the music and imagery through one central idea: a world suspended in coldness, with human life still moving inside it.
